AUSTIN, Texas—July 8, 2024Betterleave, a leading provider of bereavement support who partners with organizations to provide personalized, clinically-coordinated support to individuals, announced it has been selected by Sonder Hospice to provide comprehensive grief and loss support as an added service to its patients and their families.

“Betterleave’s platform will provide essential care and support to our patients, families and caregivers as they navigate grief and loss,” said Lloyd Wilson, President and CEO of Sonder Hospice. “Betterleave’s expertise, accessibility, and approach to bereavement is aligned with our comprehensive, mission-based approach to hospice care, making them a natural fit for our organization.”

Sonder is one of Austin’s leading local hospice agencies. Its mission is to provide compassionate care to those with life-threatening illnesses and support for their families, with an ethos of enriching lives and honoring the individual’s person and spirit.

Through its partnership with Betterleave, Sonder will gain access to an innovative, high-touch patient and family member experience via a comprehensive digital platform, introduce modernized multi-channel communications beyond traditional calls, pamphlets, and mailers, and enhance its brand identity. This commitment ensures comprehensive care and support not only for patients but also for their families throughout the grieving process.

Through the Betterleave platform, Sonder patients, families and caregivers will have access to:

●     Loss logistics and time-saving resources

●     Support groups and workshops to connect with others

●     Grief and loss support including articles, videos, and digital journaling

●     A network of grief experts

●     Estate planning and administration assistance

●     A Care Partner to connect individuals with personalized resources and support

“We’re proud to partner with Sonder Hospice, an organization that has prioritized comprehensive care not only for patients, but for caregivers and families affected by grief and loss,” said Cara McCarty Abbott, Founder and CEO of Betterleave. “Bereavement care is long overdue for transformation, and our team is looking forward to helping ensure that those experiencing loss receive the best support possible.”

The Sonder Hospice team’s expertise in managing symptoms, advanced illnesses and neurologic diseases helps avoid the hospital and removes the caregiver burden of trying to manage a loved one’s health. This allows the patient to live their lives in the comfort of their home and provides peace of mind for caregivers and families.

Betterleave will be available to Sonder patients and their families beginning in summer 2024. Betterleave will work in lockstep with Sonder’s team of social workers and chaplains to offer ongoing grief and loss support, available at no additional cost to those who use Betterleave’s services and resources.

Sonder Hospice is the latest addition to Betterleave’s client roster. The company has already gained significant traction by partnering with hospices, insurers, and hospital systems to establish bereavement care.
